Tally mobile app for Android and iPhone
TallyPrime itself runs on Windows, so your books stop at the office desk. Several things can carry them to a phone — and they are not equivalent. Here is the straight version, including what Tally publishes itself.
Free plan, no card. Works with TallyPrime and Tally.ERP 9.
Can I use Tally on mobile?
Yes — but not by installing TallyPrime on the phone. TallyPrime is a Windows program and Tally Solutions does not publish a phone version of it. What reaches a phone is your data, carried there by one of five arrangements, each of which needs something switched on somewhere else.
| How | What has to be running | In practice |
|---|---|---|
| Reports in Browser | The office PC on, Tally open, the company loaded | Tally's own browser reports. Read-only, and it stops the moment somebody shuts the PC down for the night. |
| Tally Remote Access | A subscription, the office PC on, Tally open | The real Tally screen, driven remotely. Powerful, but it is a desktop interface on a 6-inch display. |
| Tally on Cloud | A hosting subscription, a licence on the host | Someone else runs the Windows PC for you. Removes the switched-off problem and adds a monthly bill. |
| Remote desktop | The office PC on, a remote-desktop tool | Works, but you are pinching and scrolling around a Windows desktop. Fine in an emergency, painful daily. |
| A companion app | A one-time sync from the PC, then nothing | A phone-shaped app reading a copy of your books. Opens with the office PC switched off. This is what AccBrain is. |
Each of these is worth a longer look — we compared all five in detail, including what breaks in each one.
Which app is used for Tally?
There is no single official answer, which is why the question keeps getting asked. Tally Solutions publishes a phone app of its own, but it scans supplier bills rather than showing your reports — so the reports question is answered by companion apps built by other companies. AccBrain is one of them.
Your reports, phone-shaped
Dashboard, day book, outstandings, stock, P&L and balance sheet, laid out for a phone rather than squeezed from a desktop grid. The numbers are your own Tally figures, not a re-entry of them.
It opens with the PC off
A copy of the books lives on the phone, so the answer is there in a customer's shop, on a flight, or at 11pm when the office machine is off. It catches up the next time the PC is on.
Photograph a bill instead of typing it
Point the camera at a supplier's bill and it becomes a purchase entry, mapped to the right ledger. This is the same job Tally's own phone app does, in the same app as the reports.
Ask in plain language
"Who owes me most?" and "how much stock is in the Andheri godown?" get an answer from your own accounts, without knowing which of Tally's several hundred reports to open.
If you are choosing between several of these, we put seven of them side by side — including the five things AccBrain does not do.
Is TallyPrime available for Android?
No. TallyPrime is a Windows application and there is no Android or iOS build of it. What is available for Android and iPhone is a companion app that reads the same books — which is a different thing, and better suited to a phone than a shrunken copy of a desktop screen would be.
- 1
The Windows agent reads Tally
A small program on the PC where Tally already runs asks TallyPrime for your companies over its own gateway. Tally stays the system of record; nothing is re-keyed.
- 2
The books sync to your account
Ledgers, vouchers, stock and balances travel to your account, encrypted in transit. You choose which companies are included.
- 3
The phone holds its own copy
Android and iPhone keep a local copy, which is why the app opens instantly and keeps working when the office PC is off or the signal is bad.
- 4
It catches up by itself
Next time the PC is on and the agent is running, new entries flow through and the phone updates. No export, no email, no spreadsheet.
Setting up the agent and Tally's gateway takes about fifteen minutes — the setup guide walks through every screen, and we will do it with you on a call if you would rather.
Questions people ask about Tally on a phone
Can I download TallyPrime for mobile for free?
There is nothing to download — TallyPrime has no mobile build. Anything on Play or the App Store calling itself a Tally download is either a companion app from another company or something you should not install. AccBrain is a companion app, and its free plan needs no card.
Does my office computer have to stay switched on?
Not with a companion app. Reports in Browser, Remote Access and remote desktop all need the PC on and Tally open; AccBrain syncs a copy to the phone, so the books are readable with the office machine off. It catches up when the PC is next running.
Does it change anything in my Tally data?
Reading never does. Entries you raise from the phone — an invoice, a receipt, a payment — go back into Tally as ordinary vouchers, and you decide which people are allowed to raise them.
Does it work with Tally.ERP 9 or only TallyPrime?
Both. If you are still on Tally.ERP 9, it is worth knowing that Tally closed its free upgrade window in August 2026 — that changes what your options cost, not whether the app works.
Is it safe to put my accounts on a phone?
That deserves a real answer rather than a reassurance. The questions to put to any tool wanting your books are: read or write, whether your data trains a model, who on your team sees what, where it is stored, and what happens when you leave. We answer all five in writing.
